AdSense for YouTube: linking, the $100 threshold and why the money is not arriving
Updated 06.10.2026 · Kostas Obuchow
The payment side of monetization, in the order it breaks: linking the account, the $10 PIN, the $100 threshold, tax details, and the five reasons a balance exists while no payment ever leaves.
Short answer
AdSense for YouTube and channel monetization are two separate systems, and almost all of the pain is in the second one. The content side decides whether you earn; AdSense decides whether the money leaves.
Four gates, in the order you hit them:
$10 — the verification PIN is mailed to your address;
$100 — the payment threshold; below it, the balance rolls over month after month;
tax details — missing ones mean withholding on part of your earnings, not a delay;
one account per person — a second AdSense account is a policy problem, not a convenience.
Each of these stops payment silently. Nothing is broken, nothing is appealed; the money simply sits.
How to link AdSense to your YouTube channel
AdSense is a separate Google product with its own account, address and tax identity. The channel is linked to it from YouTube Studio, in the monetization section, and until that link exists the earnings have nowhere to go.
Two rules people discover late:
one person may hold one AdSense account, and that account can be linked to many channels. So a second channel does not need a second AdSense — it needs the same one;
the account holder is a legal person. The name on the AdSense account must match the name on the bank account and the identity document. A mismatch is the single most common reason a payment is returned.
The $100 threshold
The standard payment threshold is $100. The cycle is monthly: earnings are finalised in the first days of the following month, and if the balance is at or above the threshold — and the account has no holds — payment is issued in the window around the 21st to the 26th.
Below $100 nothing is lost and nothing is paid: the balance carries to the next month and keeps accumulating. A channel earning $30 a month is paid every fourth month, which looks like a fault and is not one.
You can set a threshold higher than $100 if you prefer fewer, larger payments. You cannot set it lower.
The PIN at $10
When lifetime earnings reach $10, Google mails a physical letter with a verification PIN to the payment address. Until it is entered, payments are held even if the balance is over $100.
What goes wrong here:
the letter takes weeks and sometimes does not arrive. You can request it again, up to three times;
after the third attempt, or in regions where post is unreliable, Google offers verification by identity document instead;
the address must be the one you can actually receive mail at — changing it resets this step.
Tax details, and the withholding without them
AdSense asks for tax information, and for YouTube earnings this is not optional paperwork. The relevant part is what happens if you skip it:
a creator outside the United States who has not submitted tax information has withholding applied to earnings from US viewers — up to 30% of that portion, not of the whole balance. With a valid form and a treaty between your country and the US, the rate is usually lower;
a creator inside the United States without valid tax information faces backup withholding of 24% on total earnings.
This one is worth doing the week you are approved, because the withholding is applied as earnings accrue and is not refunded by filling the form in later.
There is a balance and no payment
Run these in order; the first “no” is your answer:

a policy or invalid-activity hold stops payouts
If all six pass and the money still has not arrived, the practical answer is usually the bank: international transfers can take several business days, and some banks reject transfers whose beneficiary name is not an exact match.
Refusals and duplicate accounts
Three different refusals get confused with each other:
the AdSense application is rejected. Usually age (18 or older), an address that cannot be verified, or an account that duplicates an existing one;
a duplicate account. One person, one AdSense. Creating a second to get around something can end both of them, including the one that was working;
invalid activity. This is the one with teeth: earnings generated by bought traffic, self-clicks or incentivised views can be withheld and the account closed. It is handled on the payments side, so the content being fine does not help. The details of what that costs are in buying 4000 watch hours.
Worth stating plainly, because it is the part people assume is the same everywhere: on our network the payment plumbing is not yours to build. The pages are already monetized and already have payout accounts, so there is no PIN letter, no $100 threshold to crawl to and no tax form for a country you do not live in. The revenue split is agreed in advance, and the reporting comes from the dashboard breakdown.

The network runs about 250 pages in 25 languages. Across the monetized pages the average is $0.024 per thousand views, and $0.08 to $0.33 per thousand qualified views — the ones Meta counts, averaging $0.185. The best single page-month was $21,216 and the best day $4,163. These are measurements, not a promise: the rate follows language, market and format. Full breakdown in RPM by country.
How we help
If what stands between you and the money is a payment account in a country you have no address in, no amount of content fixes that — the page has to be on the other side of that problem already.
Your videos and photos go out on the network's pages and we split the revenue. The invitation, the eligible country and the payout account stop being your problem — the pages and the payouts are on us. We pick the language and the market that fit your content, and we check every file for originality risk before it is published. The rights to your material stay with you.
You monetize on your own page and we set it up. If you would rather own the asset and keep all of the revenue, we prepare the page, help with the payout details and hand over a plan of what to publish and when.
Write to us with a link to your channel or page: we will say which languages your material makes sense in and roughly what it would return.
Balance is $180, threshold is $100, two months have passed and no payment.
September 2026
Two months with a balance over the threshold almost always means a hold rather than a delay, and the usual suspect is the PIN or the payment method. Open Payments and check three things in this order: whether the address PIN is entered, whether tax information is submitted and unexpired, and whether the bank account is verified rather than just added. One of those three will be open, and the payment will go out in the next cycle after you close it.
I have two channels. Do I need a second AdSense account?
August 2026
No, and getting one is actively harmful. One person holds one AdSense account, and both channels link to it — the earnings arrive together and the threshold is counted once, which in practice means you get paid sooner. A second AdSense account registered to the same person is a duplicate, and the usual outcome is that both get disabled, including the one that was already paying.
